Ambassador-designate, Aidan O'Hara, enjoyed a lively debate among more than 20 young people who participated in the Constitutional Academy, a workshop funded by the European Union.
The Constitutional Academy is being implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance as part of the European Union’s programme ‘Supporting Sudan’s Democratic Transition.’
The aim of the academy is to transfer knowledge of the constitution development process, by comparing different constitutional experiences from around the world.
The Academy also discusses standard elements in constitutions, such as the system of government, the separation of powers, the role of women and young people, judicial systems and the harmonisation of constitutions with international conventions.
The support of the European Union is intended to help direct the energy of young people towards innovative solutions, by acquiring knowledge from the experiences of others and providing real opportunities for peaceful and constructive dialogue.
