The former Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, warned that Sudan cannot afford a return to the “dark legacy” of Islamist factions that captured the state for decades and plunged the country into continuous conflict.
In a statement issued on his official account, Hamdok said the ongoing war is being fueled by “the same ideological forces within the military leadership,” accusing them of obstructing peace efforts and resisting the Quad’s framework for ending the conflict.
Hamdok called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, stressing that the Sudanese people deserve a civilian, democratic state free from extremism and from the destructive politics that dominated the country’s past.
