U.S. State Department Condemns “Grotesque” Atrocities by SAF and RSF, Urges Immediate Humanitarian Truce

The United States Department of State has condemned what it described as “grotesque atrocities” committed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against Sudanese civilians and humanitarian workers.

In a statement, the State Department said innocent Sudanese families should not be forced to live in fear of deadly drone and aerial strikes. It referenced reported SAF attacks on El Naam’s ostrich market that allegedly killed civilians going about their daily lives, as well as reported RSF strikes on Kweik Hospital that reportedly killed health workers.

The Department further stated that atrocities committed by both SAF and RSF against civilians and humanitarian personnel are “grotesque.” It noted that both sides have attacked World Food Programme (WFP) facilities, killing WFP staff and destroying critical supplies, and accused the warring parties of weaponizing food and the starvation of civilians as a tactic of war.

“These barbaric attacks must stop,” the statement said, adding that the time is long overdue for the belligerents to accept a humanitarian truce.
