Sudanese National Human Rights Observatory Arbitrary Arrests of Civilians in Al-Obeid by Joint Forces Militias Local reports from the city of Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, documented that members of the Joint Forces militias, loyal to the Sudanese army, arrested several unarmed youths, tied their hands, and detained them in detention centers on allegations of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces. The detainees face an unknown fate amid the absence of any legal justification or fair trial, exposing them to serious violations, including torture and ill-treatment within detention facilities. This action constitutes a blatant violation of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, representing a clear case of arbitrary detention and deprivation of liberty without any legal basis. Our team at the Observatory calls on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately, investigate these violations, ensure the release of the detainees, and hold those responsible accountable, in order to protect civilians and safeguard their fundamental rights.
