The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army Meets with the United Nations Secretary –General’s Personal Envoy On Thursday, 2 July 2026, a high level delegation from the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A-AW), headed by the Movement’s chairman comrade Abdul Wahid Mohammed Ahmed Al Nour, met in Nairobi, Kenya, with Mr. Pekka Haavisto, the United Nations Secretary- General’s Personal Envoy. The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on a range of substantial issues of mutual concern, with particular emphasis on the following: 1- The meeting addressed the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, in the context of the ongoing conflict, which continues to affect the lives of millions of civilians, primarily in areas most affected by active hostilities in Kordofan, Blue Nile, and Darfur. The discussions also focused on the continued restrictions on Humanitarian access and the use of humanitarian assistance as a mean of warfare, which impede the delivery of life- saving assistance to large populations in critical need. 2- The exchange of views also covered the humanitarian situation in displacement camps located in areas under the sovereignty of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), which host millions of people displaced by the ongoing conflict from various parts of Sudan. It further considered the life- threatening conditions in the camps exist across Darfur since 2003, as well as refugee camps in neighboring countries. The deliberations noted that these populations continue to face severe humanitarian challenges, including acute shortage of food, medicines, shelter, and safe drinking water. In this regard, the meeting underscored the urgent need for enhanced regional and international action to avert an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. 3- The United Nations Secretary – General’s Personal Envoy and the distinguished members of his office reiterated their commitment to engaging with international partners and humanitarian organizations to help bridge the huge gap in 1 humanitarian assistance, particularly given the approaching rainy season, which is expected to further exacerbate humanitarian needs. They additionally renewed their commitment to working with relevant stakeholders committed to ending the conflict through resolving its root causes and create conditions to ensure safe, voluntary and dignified return of internally displaced persons and the refugees to their places of origin. 4- The SLM/A delegation underscored the importance of intensifying the efforts of regional and international actors to facilitate speedy end to the conflict in Sudan, moreover the delegation emphasized the need to exert all appropriate forms of diplomatic pressure on the parties to the conflict to secure an immediate humanitarian truce and a permanent, comprehensive ceasefire encompassing all armed actors. 5- Conducting of an inclusive political process which is a Sudanese led, and Sudanese – owned dialogue to address the root causes of Sudan’s historical crisis and the underlying drivers of political instability. The delegation noted that such a process should bring together all Sudanese political, civilian, community, religious, youth and women groups, as well as the armed revolutionary movements, except the National Congress Party, the Islamic Movement and their affiliated facades, or any party that declines willingly to participate. The Movement’s representatives stressed the need to reach consensus on the establishment of a fully- fledged, civilian –led transitional government, with the aim of realizing a democratic civilian governance, in accordance with the vision, objectives, and principles of the December Revolution, as well as the roadmap proposed by the Quad.
