Canada’s Ambassador Meets Hamdok After Addis Ababa Consultations: We Support a Civilian-led Process to End War in Sudan

The Ambassador of Canada to Ethiopia and Djibouti and Head of Mission for Sudan, Nicolas Simard, met with former Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, following consultations among Sudanese political and civil forces committed to peace in Addis Ababa.In a post on X, the Canadian Ambassador said he discussed with Hamdok “the urgent need to end the conflict, protect civilians, ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access, support a civilian-led process to end the war and facilitate a return to democratic transition, and build a peace economy for Sudan’s future.”Simard stressed that “Women and youth must be central to political dialogue, peacebuilding and economic reconstruction.”The Canadian Ambassador thanked the UK Sudan Office for convening “this valuable discussion with Sudanese representatives and diplomatic partners,” affirming that “Canada stands with the Sudanese people.”
