Introduction
On October 3, 2026, the Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO) conducted a workshop in Sabreen IDP Camp in El Daein, East Darfur State, with 25 male and female participants. The workshop targeted civil society organizations, youth and women’s associations, and traditional leadership.
The workshop aimed to enhance awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms and build the capacity of civil society, youth, women’s groups, and community leaders in human rights, with a specific focus on justice issues and the rights of women and children. It emphasized that capacity building is an essential step toward strengthening the community’s ability to know its rights and demand them through legal and peaceful means.
Workshop Sessions and Discussions
The second session addressed the concept of strategic litigation and its role in handling human rights issues, focusing on the strategic utilization of legal pathways to achieve a broad impact in protecting rights and promoting justice.
The sessions also covered the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), alongside child protection and rights, highlighting the importance of providing a safe environment that guarantees children’s access to basic rights and protects them from all forms of violence, exploitation, and abuse.
The workshop witnessed active participation through discussion sessions, questions, and inquiries, which enriched the training content.
Conclusion
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants called for organizing further workshops to continue building the capacities of civil society organizations, youth and women’s associations, and traditional leaders as key pillars for community development and empowerment.
