Nyala Livestock Market Massacre: 30 Killed, 43 Injured as Tasis Alliance Accuses Egyptian Drone Strike

The Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis) condemns in the strongest terms the deliberate targeting of the livestock market in the Sudanese capital “Nyala” by a drone aircraft coming from the Egyptian military base located east of Al-Uwaynat, in an attempt to divert attention from the heinous crime committed by Egyptian aviation in the Al-Uqaydat area and North Al-Wadi, and as a continuation of blatant Egyptian military intervention in Sudanese affairs. This resulted in 30 people killed and 43 wounded among civilians, and the destruction of their property. The tally is still ongoing to determine the number of those targeted.

According to initial information, the bombardment targeted the market today, Friday, at a time when it was witnessing a high density of citizens, turning it into a scene of destruction and blood. Field reports documented the martyrdom of large numbers of civilians, including women and children, and the injury of others with varying wounds, in addition to the complete destruction of commercial shops.

The targeting of popular markets and populated areas constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a complete war crime, placing the lives of civilians in the circle of direct targeting. This attack comes in the context of a dangerous escalation witnessed in the region, as similar attacks have been repeated on the markets of Abu Za’ima, Jabal Halla, Broosh, Abu ‘Idam, Al-Nayem village, and Um Zulayta during the past period.

While the Sudan Founding Alliance holds the army of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood movement and its supporters fully legally and morally responsible for this massacre, it demands that the international community, including the Security Council and human rights organizations, urgently intervene to stop these repeated violations, take immediate steps to protect civilians, and conduct an independent and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Alliance also offers its condolences to the deceased, wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded and injured, and affirms the importance of respecting the principles of international humanitarian law, stopping the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, and committing to ensuring the safety of populations in conflict areas.
