African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and DevelopmentLegal Statement on the Peaceful Demonstration in Geneva and the Associated Events

Geneva – Alsudanianews

The African-European Organization for Humanitarian Action and Development, in coordination with its partners from civil society organizations and the European Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution, announces its formal steps regarding the events related to the peaceful demonstration held in the city of Geneva on 16 November 2025. These actions are taken in accordance with the legal framework governing freedom of assembly and expression under the Swiss Constitution and the relevant European conventions.

Legal Framework of the Event:
The event obtained an official permit issued by the competent authorities of the Geneva Directorate, in accordance with the provisions regulating the right to peaceful assembly. A designated time frame for the event was set from 14:00 to 17:00.
The organization complied with all conditions stipulated in the permit, including the assembly route, the number of participants, and safety procedures.

Incident of Assault:
According to documented information and police reports, the assembly was subjected to a coordinated attack by a group of individuals affiliated with extremist tendencies, whose possible connections are currently under investigation. The attackers used sharp tools and assault means punishable under Swiss law, pursuant to articles related to aggravated assault and public order disturbance.
The attack resulted in serious injuries to four participants, who were subsequently transported to the hospital. Swiss police proceeded to arrest ten suspects, and an official criminal investigation has been opened.

Continuity Despite Emergency Circumstances:
Despite the premeditated attack and the rainy weather conditions, participants continued their demonstration within the legally permitted framework until the end of the authorized period, reaffirming their commitment to peaceful conduct and respect for the law.

Legal Measures Undertaken:
The organization has initiated the following legal steps:

Filing an official complaint through the organization’s accredited legal counsel in Geneva.

  • Preparing a legal dossier that includes participants’ testimonies, medical reports, and police records.
  • Referring the dossier to the competent judicial authorities and considering the initiation of a civil lawsuit to seek compensation.
  • Notifying European organizations concerned with freedom of expression and assembly of the details of the incident, in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks.

The organization affirms that it will pursue the case through all legal channels to ensure that such assaults are not repeated and to strengthen the protection of peaceful civil assemblies in Europe.

The organization extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Swiss authorities—represented by the Geneva Directorate and the Swiss Police—for their professional cooperation, issuance of the necessary permits, and provision of security before, during, and after the event, which enabled participants to exercise their right to peaceful expression within a framework that respects the law and democratic values.
