Cholera Outbreak in Darfur Spreads Rapidly Over 5,200 Cases Reported

A devastating cholera outbreak is sweeping through Darfur, Sudan, with a significant surge in cases reported across various displacement camps. The outbreak has affected multiple areas, including Tawila, Jebel Marra, and Nyala, with the total number of cases exceeding 5,211, including 229 deaths. The cholera outbreak in Darfur, particularly in the camps of Tawila, Jebel Marra, and Nyala, is witnessing an alarming increase in the number of daily cases recorded in displacement centers. In the Tawila area, most cases are concentrated in the camps, while the rest are concentrated in the Martal area, south of Tawila. The cumulative daily number of cases since the outbreak has reached 3,662, including 70 deaths. There are currently 180 cases in the isolation center, with 120 new cases received today. said Adam Rojal, spokesman for the Coordinating Committee for Refugees and Displaced People,
The epidemic has also spread to other areas in Jebel Marra, including Golo, where the cumulative daily number of cases has reached 714, including 48 deaths; and Guldo, where the cumulative daily number has reached 60, including 7 deaths. In Nertiti, the cumulative daily number of cases since the outbreak has reached 5. In Rokero, the daily cumulative number of cases since the outbreak has reached 17, including four deaths. In East Jebel Marra, Deribat, the daily cumulative number of cases since the outbreak has reached 19. In the Fina area, two confirmed cholera cases have been reported. In Sortony camp, the daily cumulative number of cases has reached eight, including two deaths.
The total daily cases in Kalma camp has reached 435, including 45 deaths. The daily cumulative number in Otash camp has reached 191, including 49 deaths. The daily cumulative number in Dereig camp has reached 98, including four deaths. This is in addition to the cases recorded in Al Salam camp.
The total daily cases since the outbreak in Darfur has exceeded 5,211, including 229 deaths.
