The epidemic continues to spread in several areas of Darfur, including areas and villages surrounding Zalingei city, the Tawila area, Jebel Marra, Nyala, and Khazan Jadid in Shaeria locality, as well as displacement camps, where the disease has spread at unprecedented rates. Despite the shortage of medical supplies and isolation centers, humanitarian organizations, local volunteers, emergency rooms, and local authorities are making tremendous efforts to combat the disease. However, significant difficulties and challenges remain due to the increasing rates of infection, threatening people’s lives and representing a forgotten humanitarian nightmare and disaster in a country torn apart by war, famine, and disease. We call on the World Health Organization and relevant institutions to take effective and urgent action to prevent this health and humanitarian emergency facing Sudanese communities in displacement areas where the epidemic is spreading.
