MSF Expresses Concern Over Cholera Outbreak in Darfur
Port sudan: Alsudanianews
News: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has expressed deep concern over the cholera outbreak in some states in Darfur, marking a worrying development amid displacement and limited access to clean water and sanitation. According to a statement by MSF, cholera cases have been confirmed in Darfur for the first time since the conflict began, sparking significant concern in a region already grappling with large-scale displacement and inadequate access to clean water and sanitation. South Darfur is the worst affected, with MSF supporting oral rehydration points in the community and opening a Cholera Treatment Centre at Al-Nahda Hospital in Nyala. Approximately 250 cases have been recorded at the MSF-supported Nyala Teaching Hospital since May 27. MSF is also providing life-saving care in West Darfur and may expand operations as the outbreak evolves. The organization is urging UN agencies and NGOs to act swiftly, mobilize funding, deliver supplies, and deploy more staff, particularly in South Darfur.
