The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) negotiating delegation has addressed the plenary session of the Annual African Peace and Security Dialogue, organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in Johannesburg. The forum brought together prominent African leaders, academics, security officials, and representatives from regional and international organizations to discuss the ongoing crisis in Sudan. During the session, the RSF delegation delivered a comprehensive presentation on the origins and development of the conflict in Sudan, particularly the events surrounding the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023. The delegation highlighted the efforts made by the RSF to bring an end to the violence and shared its vision for addressing the underlying causes of the conflict and fostering long-term peace and stability in the country. The RSF delegation underscored that the war was ignited by the jihadist Islamic Movement, which exercises significant control over the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Operating under the instructions of the Islamic Movement and the corrupt and authoritarian former regime, the SAF leadership has been systematically working to derail Sudan’s democratic transition, undermining the aspirations of the Sudanese people’s revolution that had successfully ousted that regime from power. The RSF delegation emphasized that the Islamic Movement, through its influence over the SAF leadership, has repeatedly obstructed peace initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis. They outlined how the RSF is committed to finding a peaceful resolution and articulated its vision for rebuilding Sudan on the basis of justice, inclusivity, and the formation of a new professional national army that truly represents all segments of Sudanese society. The delegation also delivered a letter from RSF Commander, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo to former South African President Thabo Mbeki. The letter contained a detailed analysis of the crisis in Sudan and suggested potential pathways toward a peaceful resolution. The RSF delegation’s contribution to the forum was well-received, with attendees — including former President Thabo Mbeki — expressing appreciation for the depth and comprehensive nature of their participation.
