Sudanese authorities have reported that cholera cases have surged to over 21,000, with 626 deaths since August.

The Ministry of Health confirmed 192 new cases and two additional deaths, bringing the total to 21,288 infections across 12 states, including Kassala, Al-Qadarif, the Red Sea, and the Nile River. The ministry highlighted a rise in cases in Al-Jazira and White Nile states. This cholera outbreak coincides with the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has caused over 20,000 deaths and displaced nearly 10 million people since April 2023.

The number of deaths from the ongoing cholera outbreak in Sudan has risen to 473, Sudanese Health Ministry announced

Meanwhile, the total number of cholera cases in the country has reached 14,944, the ministry said in a statement.

The heavy rains and floods that have been affecting Sudan since June have contributed to the spread of cholera.
