Sudan’s Dismantling Committee Resumes Work, Vows to Pursue Former Regime Figures and Recover Looted Assets

The Committee for the Dismantling of the June 30, 1989 Regime and the Removal of Empowerment has officially announced the resumption of its work, reaffirming its commitment to dismantling the structures of the former regime and ensuring accountability for corruption and abuses.

In a statement issued on March 17, 2026, the Committee saluted the Sudanese people, particularly victims of the ongoing war, which it said was ignited by elements of the former regime in an attempt to return to power.

The Committee stressed that its mandate includes ending the control of the National Congress Party and the Islamic Movement over state institutions, recovering looted public funds, and prosecuting those responsible for crimes committed over the past decades.

It described the decision to freeze its activities following the October 25, 2021 coup as illegitimate, noting that the Committee had been a key pillar of the December Revolution in exposing corruption and confronting the former regime.

The Committee reiterated its determination to continue its work without retreat, focusing on tracking the financial and organizational networks of the dissolved regime and bringing perpetrators to justice. It emphasized that achieving peace, stability, and democracy in Sudan depends on completing the dismantling process.

A leadership meeting resolved to resume operations under the chairmanship of Mohamed Al-Faki Suleiman, a member of the Sovereignty Council, to pursue and recover assets linked to the former regime both inside and outside Sudan, and to cut off its financial resources.

The Committee also confirmed it will pursue leaders of the dissolved National Congress Party and Islamic Movement through legal channels domestically and internationally, while confronting media platforms used to spread disinformation and exposing crimes committed by the group.

It further announced plans to reveal organizations and entities used as fronts by the former regime, including the names of those in charge.

Calling for unity among the Sudanese people and forces of the December Revolution, the Committee welcomed cooperation with regional and international partners to end the war, dismantle structures of corruption and authoritarianism, and restore stability and prosperity in Sudan.

The Committee pledged to keep the public informed of its activities through its official media platforms.
