Statement on the Demolition of Al-Khairat Village, East Nile, Khartoum
Strong Condemnation of Violations
What happened in Al-Khairat Village, East Nile, is a flagrant violation of human rights and international law. The residents of Al-Khairat Village, most of whom are from historically marginalized areas (the people of the margins), were subjected to forced evictions and systematic home demolitions motivated by racism and regionalism. These practices constitute crimes against humanity under international standards, including the UN Charter on Human Rights.
Our Demands
An Independent International Investigation**: We call on the United Nations and relevant international organizations to urgently open an independent and transparent investigation into the events, to ensure that such violations do not recur and to punish those responsible.
Stop Forced Evictions: We call on the Sudanese government to immediately halt forced evictions and respect the residents’ rights to housing and safety.
Protect the Rights of the Residents**: We affirm the residents’ right to return to their villages and properties, and work to provide fair and transparent compensation to those affected.
Justice and Accountability**: We demand that those responsible for these violations be held accountable and that they not be repeated in the future.
We affirm that these measures are inconsistent with human and moral values, and we call on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting human rights in Sudan and working to build a future that guarantees justice and dignity for all.
