DARFUR ON THE BRINK HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE … HALF A MILLION DISPLACED FACE DISEASE RISKS AMID WORSENING CONDITIONS

Sudanese Voices Saturday/April/ 25 The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed extremely harsh humanitarian conditions facing children in the Darfur region, amid repeated waves of displacement, ongoing fighting, and a severe shortage of basic services, exacerbating the suffering of families and threatening the future of an entire generation. UNICEF spokesperson Eva Hinds stated that approximately 500,000 displaced people are gathered in the Tawila area of North Darfur, where severe overcrowding has heightened the risk of disease outbreaks in an environment lacking the most basic necessities of life. Hinds confirmed that UNICEF continues to provide protection, healthcare, education, and water services, with a particular focus on psychological support for the most affected children, in an effort to mitigate the impact of the worsening crisis.
