KHARTOUM –Alsudanianews
The Sudanese National Observatory for Human Rights has expressed “deep concern” regarding escalating reports of women being detained in security centers within territories controlled by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). According to a statement released by the observatory, these women are being held on charges of “collaboration” and “treason” without access to fair trials or communication with their families.
The detention of women and the deprivation of their basic legal guarantees constitute a clear violation of human rights principles and international humanitarian law, and raise serious concerns regarding their physical and psychological safety as well as their conditions of detention.
The immediate release of women arbitrarily detained must be ensured, or they must be brought before fair and public trials in accordance with the law.
The detainees must also be allowed to communicate with their families and lawyers without restrictions.
