Khartoum – Al-SudaniyaNews

The head of the dissolved National Congress Party and ICC-wanted figure, Ahmed Haroun, issued a statement congratulating the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied forces on what he described as a “major victory.” He commended the fighters and mobilized volunteers for their role in the ongoing military operations, stressing that the achievements represent, in his words, “important progress in the course of the battles.”In the statement issued on July 26, 2026, Haroun said the Armed Forces and supporting forces had managed to achieve what he called a “great victory,” adding that this paves the way for restoring control over various parts of the country. He noted that what happened was the fruit of patience, steadfastness and determination, and praised what he called the “bravery of the fighters” on the battlefields.Haroun specifically commended the residents of Kordofan region, appreciating what he said was their role in supporting military operations, and pointing to the contribution of local communities in backing the forces engaged in combat. He also invoked several popular heritage references in speaking about solidarity and cohesion during the war, calling for the continuation of what he described as the “march to defend the country.”Haroun concluded his statement with takbir and prayers, expressing his thanks to the fighters, regular forces and supporting forces, and stating that the coming phase requires more cohesion and continued military operations.Ahmed Haroun is considered one of the most prominent leaders of former President Omar al-Bashir’s regime. He faces charges before the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Darfur region. He has also remained one of the most vocal opponents of political tracks aimed at ending the conflict, and a leading advocate of a military resolution. This comes as the war in Sudan continues since April 2023, leaving behind a large-scale humanitarian crisis and mounting political and security repercussions.
