More than 40 children killed, over 35 injured in three days across Sudan

As the violence in Sudan intensifies due to the ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), violations against children have surged significantly.

Over 40 children have been killed and more than 35 others injured in just three days, according to reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR).

These incidents took place across three separate regions of the Sudan, highlighting a grim and growing threat to children across the country.

According to the latest reports from the alliance, airstrikes on Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, on Monday, February 3, led to the tragic deaths of 21 children and left 29 others wounded.

In addition, at least 11 children were killed in an attack on a livestock market in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, while eight more children lost their lives and six others were injured in an airstrike on the Sabreen Market in Omdurman city, north of Khartoum, on Saturday, February 2.

In the last week of January, SAR reports confirmed that seven children were killed and wounded in an attack on the only operational hospital in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. Additionally, three more children were killed or injured when a shell hit a UNICEF child-friendly space in Khartoum.

“Between June and December 2024, as the conflict spread into new areas, more than 900 incidents of grave violations against children were reported – an average of more than four a day. A staggering 80 percent of them were accounts of killing and maiming, primarily in Darfur, Khartoum, and Gezira States,” according to a latest UNICEF report.

For the SAR, children in Sudan are bearing the brunt of the ongoing conflict, prompting the alliance to repeatedly urge all parties involved to uphold their commitments under international humanitarian law and to respect, safeguard, and fulfill the rights of every child in Sudan
