Rapid Support Forces arrest administrative director of Bashair Hospital in Khartoum

Khartoum – SAR

In a disturbing development, the administrative director of Bashair Teaching Hospital, located south of Khartoum, was arrested by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR).

Eyewitnesses from the area reported that a group of RSF fighters detained Hatim Al-Daw, the hospital’s administrative director and a member of the South Khartoum Emergency Room, and took him to an unknown location.

Volunteers working in the emergency room held the RSF fully responsible for any harm that might befall their colleague, calling for his immediate release.

The SAR follow-up reports indicate that the hospital staff had recently gone on strike, suspending treatment for non-emergency cases, in protest of the repeated RSF raids on the hospital and frequent gunfire within its walls. The strike came just days after the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors without Borders, withdrew from the hospital, citing similar concerns over the safety of medical staff and patients.
