The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) has expressed deep shock over a reported attack on a hospital in East Darfur, which allegedly killed dozens of civilians, including children, and injured many others.
The UN emphasized that such attacks are unacceptable, stressing that civilians and healthcare facilities must be protected and never targeted. It also called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law.
According to local sources, a major humanitarian catastrophe unfolded on Friday evening, March 20, when a drone strike targeted key facilities at Al-Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur State. The attack destroyed the emergency department and resulted in the deaths of dozens of patients, including women and children, while the total number of casualties remains unclear.
In a related development, drone strikes also targeted multiple locations in the city of Al-Dabba, coinciding with a speech delivered by Al-Misbah Abu Zaid, leader of the Al-Baraa bin Malik group, following Eid prayers. The incidents reflect a dangerous escalation and a significant deterioration in the security situation.
The attack on Al-Daein Hospital is widely considered a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of medical facilities and personnel.
