Save the Children has stated that Sudan continues to experience the world’s largest displacement crisis, as ongoing conflict and deteriorating humanitarian conditions have forced millions of civilians to flee their homes in search of safety.
The organization emphasized that access to safe shelter has become an urgent daily necessity for countless Sudanese families who have lost their homes and livelihoods due to the prolonged conflict. Large numbers of displaced people continue to live in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions across camps and temporary settlements.
According to the organization, displaced communities are receiving safer and more dignified shelter solutions through support from Better Shelter, aimed at improving living conditions and reducing risks faced by vulnerable groups, particularly children, women, and the elderly.
Save the Children explained that these shelter solutions provide more than protection from harsh weather conditions such as heavy rains and extreme heat. They also offer a sense of security and stability to families who have endured repeated displacement and uncertainty.
The organization highlighted that children remain among the most affected groups in the crisis, facing growing threats including malnutrition, interrupted education, disease outbreaks, and increased protection risks caused by insecurity and limited access to essential services.
Save the Children further stressed that the humanitarian response in Sudan requires stronger international support, particularly in shelter, protection, and basic services, warning that failure to expand humanitarian efforts could deepen the suffering of millions of civilians across the country.
