A 34-year-old Sudanese asylum seeker stabbed three people on Sunday, 5 July, in Clermont-Ferrand, France.According to police, calls began coming in around 2:00 p.m. from members of the public reporting a man threatening people with a knife. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the suspect allegedly attempted to stab a responding officer in the neck. Another officer then shot the suspect. The perpetrator survived his injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening wounds and is expected to face charges.All three victims were severely wounded but are also expected to survive, according to a statement from the National Police of France quoted by Franceinfo.Police said the suspect had prior convictions. At this stage of the investigation, authorities do not believe he has ties to any terrorist organizations. Despite his previous criminal record, he had not been deported.
