Sudanese Journalist Nadra Al-Mahdi Wins the “Outstanding Change Maker” Award from World Plus Organization
Sudanese journalist Nadra Al-Mahdi has been awarded the “Outstanding Change Maker” prize by the international organization World Plus, in recognition of her remarkable efforts through the “Noura Initiative” to combat violence against women in the diaspora. She was honored alongside four other women from India, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Lebanon.
When the war broke out in Sudan, Nadra witnessed the silent suffering of displaced women who endured violence, exploitation, and exile without support. In response, she founded the Noura Initiative — a program dedicated to restoring dignity and hope to women with no safe refuge.
The initiative provides shelter, medical care, counseling, and legal aid, while also helping women launch small businesses and connect with migration and resettlement services. Many survivors of exploitation have since been reunited with their families, received holistic care, and regained their independence.
Reflecting on her journey, Nadra said:
“I was deeply moved by the harsh reality faced by Sudanese women in exile after the war broke out. I felt it was my duty to act — not just with words, but with real action.”
Through her involvement with the global platform “Pulse of the World”, Nadera found solidarity and sisterhood with women around the globe who share her belief in change.
“Through ‘Pulse of the World,’ I found sisters walking the same path — women who believe in change as I do. These connections became bridges of hope through which we exchanged experiences, support, and inspiration. It showed me that what we plant in words can truly bear fruit for Sudanese women.”
The World Plus Award celebrates women leading transformative initiatives that empower their communities and inspire global action for equality and justice.
